Discussion: Dependent Origination

Saturday January 26, 4:00 PM – 5:40 PM, Jim will recap the discussion for those who have not been a part of previous sessions and continue.  Emphasis will be on concluding the suttas mentioned below and their goals, concepts and useful messages to us.

On Saturday, six PM meditation to follow in Meditation Hall.

Friday  Feb. 8, 7:00 PM – 8:45 PM, Jim will recap the discussion on dependent origination for those who did not attend previous sessions and then the group will complete the subject.  Emphasis will be on — broad concepts;  understanding of the world and ourselves; and specific transformative applications in our daily lives..

Attendees will learn to:

  • demystify this complex and enormously important teaching.
  • identify the most important factor(s) to focus on in their own daily life.
  • use mindfulness to manage parts of the process and promote their individual well being.

Please print, read and bring these if you have not done so previously:

  • Prerequisites Sutta (contains the usual DO formula and a transcendental formula) and the Quarels and Disputes Sutta (the most ancient sutta on DO)
  • Flow chart on the two suttas
